• A mortality rate is a measure of the frequency of occurrence of death in a defined population during a specified interval.

In the year 2024, City B has an estimated total female population of 4,10,000 and total male population of 5,90,000. The total number of deaths in the city in the year 2024 was 20,000.

The number of Tuberculosis cases in the year 2024 was 1,20,000, of which 80,000 were new cases. In the same year, the number of deaths occurring due to TB was 12000.

• Calculate Crude Death Rate.

Let us see how to calculate some of the maternal and child related mortality measurements using an example.

In the year 2024, City B has an estimated total female population of 4,10,000 and total male population of 5,90,000. The number of children in the age group of 1 to 4 years was 50,000. The number of women in the reproductive age group was 3,00,000. 16,000 women were pregnant in the year. 500 women underwent MTP. The number of live births was 15,000 and still births weighing over 1000 grams was 500. One woman died while giving birth. The number of deaths that occurred in children less than 7 days was 100, the number of deaths that occurred in children between 7 to 28 days was 150 and the deaths that occurred between the ages of 28 days to 1 year was 600. The number of deaths in children aged less than 5 years is 1500. The total number of deaths in the city in the year 2024 was 20,000.
